The Second Party In DC
Time and time again, the DCSGP reaches beyond our membership at the polls. Our Party has been known to pull in 25,000 votes at-large, more than 5 times our membership. The Statehood-Greens routinely beat the Republicans, head-to-head, for the same elected offices.
In the most recent voting cycle (2012), the DCSGP garnered 80,000 votes across the four most visible local races in DC (Delegate to the House, At-Large City Council, US Representative, and US Senator). Compare this to the 56,000 the Republicans received in these same races (during a Presidential election year, no less) and it becomes clear that the DCSGP is the single most effective collective voice against the rubber stamping of the Democratic Party agenda in the District.
It stands to reason that in order to effect the change so desperately needed in DC government, we must stop voting for Democrats and those not-so-secretly-Democratic "independents" that seem to pop up every election cycle.
